Duncan Ward, an award winning film maker and theatre producer approached us to update his website, along with his entire digital estate.
He had a large body of work, much of which was sitting on his old site, but was not playable on many modern devices.
Added to this, he had recently completed a short film called HERE LIES about the film making process and wanted to create an online video montage of many of the behind the scenes images and videos from the film, to add to its story telling.
The first thing we did was to catalogue all his work and separate it into different sections. We worked with Duncan and identified the content that he could sell, that which he was happy to be viewed for free and that which would be used to promote HERE LIES.
We looked at his old website, and found it to be very text heavy with no real clear direction as to where the video content lay:
We did some research and decided it made sense to keep the site running on WordPress, but to move it to our hosting servers and completely redesign it from the top down.
First of all we uploaded a lot of the content that would be given away for free onto YouTube. For the longer theatrical pieces we enabled monetization, linking it to Duncan’s bank account. This was so he could generate some revenue through advertising on these. For the shorter clips, being used to promote HERE LIES we also uploaded to YouTube, but without advertising.
We then moved the content which he wanted to sell onto Vimeo-On-Demand. We redesigned his Vimeo account, bringing it more in line with the new branding that had been developed for the new website we were building.
Once this was all complete we uploaded all the content and then configured the new site as a video montage of all of it, giving the visitor the ability to filter through the media they wanted to see.

The new site is completely interactive, and the images scale accordingly depending on what device it is being viewed on. And because we are using YouTube and Vimeo to host the videos, their are no expensive hosting costs involved, and media plays seamlessly on all devices.
Since the site was launched, they have sold some of their old productions through Vimeo and the site is generating a healthy amount of traffic. HERE LIES has gone on to win a number of film awards at various film festivals.
